In many instances, it may be very difficult to know if your child is suffering from diabetes. However, there are some diabetes child symptoms you can look for. Diabetes is a disease that increases the overall amount of sugar or glucose found in the blood. If left undiagnosed, diabetes can cause some severe problems.

One of the most common diabetes child symptoms is frequent urination and thirst. When a child suffers from diabetes, the excess sugar makes them extremely thirsty. Therefore, they drink a considerable amount to compensate. With all of the excess water they are taking in, they will then need to use the bathroom a lot more. Another diabetes child symptom is blurred vision. However, most kids do not realize their vision is blurry. Diabetes causes the vision to become blurry, but it not a constant thing. Therefore, this may be a tough symptom to recognize. Your child may also experience some numbness or tingling in their hands and feet. Again, your child may not describe this symptom to you or not realize exactly what is going on.

In a child who has diabetes, cuts and bruises may take considerable longer time to heal, than in a child without diabetes. In many instances, it is easy to simply think that your child has a "bad" cut and it is taking longer to heal. Therefore, it is important that you watch the cut or wound closely.

A child diabetes symptom that is often overlooked is irritability. This is especially true if you have a teenager. Diabetes can cause your child to have some extreme mood swings, which can be disguised as hormones in teenagers. Extreme hunger and unexplained weight loss are two other symptoms to look for. If your child is constantly eating and not gaining any weight, it may be cause for concern. Likewise, if your child is constantly eating and is still losing weight, he or she may have diabetes. Often times parents simply write this off as the child going through a growth spurt. If left undiagnosed, diabetes can cause severe problems in children. If the blood sugar remains too high, your child can experience blindness, heart disease, kidney failure and extreme nerve damage.

If you believe your child may be suffering from diabetes, it is extremely important you contact a physician. They can check your child's blood sugar several different ways. They can do a quick check to see if there is sugar present in the urine. As well, they can do a blood test after a large amount of glucose is taken in. The test will give an accurate representation of how the body reacts to the high amount of glucose. Diabetes is not something to take lightly. However, if properly diagnosed and treated, your child can go on to live a normal, healthy life.

Many people completely ignore the symptoms and signs of diabetes. This can be a deadly decision. It is estimated that approximately 27% of the population have this disease (diagnosis, undiagnosed or pre-diabetes). Ignoring the easy look up symptoms do not go away. In fact, it makes you more likely to lose their lives to it. And as you'll see at the end of this article, it can kill very quickly.

I myself have ignored all the classic signs and was within two weeks of dying when a chiropractor actually recognized as diabetes and sent me to a doctor immediately for treatment. So what are the signs of diabetes and symptoms that you may be looking for yourself or your child before you seek medical advice?

Thirst and frequent urination

Perhaps the easiest way to tell if you have diabetes out-of-control is to look for excessive thirst and frequent urination. Before I was diagnosed I thirst that even after drinking a gallon of water wouldn't go away. It would be followed by having to go to the bathroom 20 to 40 times a day. Talk about embarrassing.

Tired all the time

Another obvious symptom is constant tiredness or fatigue. People often mistake out-of-control diabetes with fibromyalgia, Mononucleosis, influenza and other diseases because of tiredness and weakness that creates. You may also feel nauseous as having the flu. A blood sugar high will make you feel bad in General (like when you said your parents, "I don't feel so well todayl").

Hungry all the time

The cells need constant energy in the form of glucose. The problem with sugar is that diabetes is not always in the cells and instead remains in the blood. Eventually the sugar is eliminated through urine-but not before taking a route very damaging.

Because your body is not getting the energy needs, tries to take more food to compensate. Is a destructive circle because the crystals of sugar in your blood are like razors just inside of the vessels. Destroy the eyes, kidneys, feet, nerves and almost everything else becomes their duty. And this is where they come from most long-term diabetic complications.

Rapid weight loss

Weight loss is the result of your body dumping most of glucose inside (all food is transformed into glucose in the body or have been deleted). I lost over 30 pounds in a few months despite hitting the Las Vegas buffet a little too often. Doesn't sound like a symptom so ill, but you are doing incredible damage to your body to lose this weight. If you're at this stage, are also probably in a condition called Ketoacidosis and weeks to die.

Headaches

A headache may be a common symptom-but if it is mixed with some of the previous symptoms, to find immediate medical attention. Eventually he kills. What is happening is because the sugar is not always to the brain cells. Oxygen is also not getting to them and create swelling of the brain.

Hair loss

One of the unfortunate symptoms of diabetes is unexpected hair loss. Right before I was diagnosed, I was almost pulling tufts of hair. Soon arrested and reversed once I was started on insulin.

Conclusion

You should teach diabetes education for every child as needed for class when they begin to see the classic diabetes signs and symptoms in their bodies, they know to seek medical attention before it's too late.

My 16 year old nephew died from undiagnosed diabetes. He was the classic diabetes signs and symptoms. After being hospitalized one night who found she had a blood sugar (it's how blood sugar) 17 times the normal amount.

Death resulted from his rapidly swelling of the brain. His body could not really even after the medication. Don't let this happen to your children or yourself. Remember, died from complications of diabetes are constantly increasing as fast as the number of newly diagnosed cases. No matter your age, look at these classic diabetes signs and symptoms, seek medical advice immediately.

Having gestational diabetes during pregnancy can mean that too much sugar is passed to your developing baby, increasing their risk of becoming diabetic later in life. Following a well planned gestational diabetes diet can reduce this risk by controlling the level of sugar in your blood, and reducing the amount that is passed to your baby via the placenta.

There are other issues that can arise from your baby receiving too much sugar. The main problem will be that your baby could grow exceptionally large, causing difficulties with delivery. Overweight babies have a much higher chance of being born by cesarean section and experiencing birth complications than normal weight babies.

What causes gestational diabetes?

Gestational diabetes is a temporary form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy, but usually disappears after the baby is born. The condition can develop when the mother's body is unable to produce enough insulin to meet the increasing needs of their developing baby. Insulin levels can also be affected by pregnancy hormones, which can limit its production.

Controlling your condition with a good gestational diabetes diet plan is crucial for the health of mother and baby. Nutritionist Bridget Swinney says;

"When large amounts of glucose accumulate in your blood, it means that your cells aren't getting the fuels they need. High blood sugar can be harmful for you and your developing baby, so it is important to try to control it".

Consult a dietician to put together your gestational diabetes diet plan

Your gestational diabetes diet plan will depend on a number of factors so it is important to consult a professional to ensure the wellbeing of you and your baby. Your diet plan will be based on the following issues:

a. How many calories you need each day

b. Your height and weight

c. Your level of activity

d. The particular needs of your baby

e. Your level of glucose intolerance

Another important issue in creating your gestational diabetes diet plan is to include foods that you actually like. Any mother will know that pregnancy is a time when food can provide enormous comfort, and trying to stick to a strict diabetes diet that does not include foods you enjoy will be very difficult.

Here are some general tips for creating a gestational diabetes diet plan:

1. Eat small meals and snacks throughout the day instead of big meals that will suddenly increase your blood sugar levels. Towards the end of your pregnancy small meals will be more comfortable for you to eat anyway.

2. Don't skip meals, and make sure you eat breakfast, even if you have morning sickness, as your blood sugar levels are at their most irregular first thing in the morning.

3. General pregnancy nutrition advice may recommend fruit juice and flavored teas. These should not form part of your gestational diabetes diet plan as they can increase your blood sugar very quickly.

4. You will need a good source of calcium for your developing baby, but look for alternatives to milk which contains high levels of lactose, a simple sugar which will increase your blood sugar level. Two or three small glasses of milk a day are the maximum for your gestational diabetes diet plan

When you look at a person with diabetes, you'd never know it, they look healthy on the outside.

But it's what you don't see that is so bad.

The disease elevates the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. As blood sugars remain high, over time, complications such as blindness, kidney failure, amputations, heart disease, and severe nerve damage can occur.

The quality of your child's life may depend on being able to recognize the symptoms of diabetes in children.

Diabetes in children has reached almost epidemic proportions. The incidence of this chronic and sometimes deadly disease is predicted to continue to rise.

Unfortunately for parents, sometimes it can be hard to identify the symptoms of diabetes in children. Read the list below and you'll understand why often symptoms of diabetes aren't recognized early.

When they are, doctors can help immediately with treatment and help you to maintain and control the diabetes.

Symptoms of diabetes in children and adults are:

o Frequent thirst - You may just be thinking your child drinks a lot.

o Frequent infections - Many consider this just a part of childhood.

o Blurred Vision - Your child may not tell you as the blurred vision can come and go. It's not always constant.

o Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal - It's easy to think the injury was just a "bad one" and it's taking longer to heal.

o Tingling/numbness in hands or feet - Again you child may not notice or tell you about it as it's not usually constant.

o Frequent urination - Many just think it comes from drinking more.

o Extreme hunger - Often parents think their child is going through a "growth spurt" and just requires more food.

o Unusual weight loss - This symptom does normally make parents concerned. If the child has bee overweight, parents sometimes think .....Great, the weight is finally coming off.

o Irritability - Can often be labeled as parent/child confrontations. Also many parents of teens just think it's a normal part of the teenage years.

You won't see all of this at once. You will notice one of them, then a month or two latter something else...

What To Do If You See Symptoms Of Diabetes In Children

Get your child tested for diabetes IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait. The test is simple and painless. The longer you wait the more difficult the disease can be to control.

These symptoms may not even be noticed until the disease in is full force. It's important to learn to recognize these symptoms. With early detection children with type 2 diabetes can learn to control the disease with diet and exercise.

Left untreated the symptoms of diabetes in children results in more defined and difficult treatment. Medications and insulin must often be used to control diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that should not be taken lightly.

There are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body no longer produces insulin.

Type 2, the most common type of diabetes occurs when the body develops a resistance to insulin, or does not produce enough insulin. Type 2 diabetes, once labeled adult onset diabetes, has become more and more prevalent in children.

Research has documented two primary factors contributing to the rise in type 2 diabetes in children. The factors are: 1) children today are more inactive, and 2) unhealthy diets in children. Today's lifestyle of fast-food meals, TV, computers, and hand-held games has put many at risk of developing symptoms of diabetes in children.

Diabetes in children is a serious threat. Take control of your child's future today. Make sure they have a healthy diet including fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep your children active. They won't be deprived if they don't spend hours a day watching TV or playing computerized games. You could be saving their life.

You may get a few weird looks and complaints, but what's that compared to the health of your child?
