Diabetes of different types is known by a number of names. We will look briefly at the symptoms at each one of these type, to begin with they are namely Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes and Gestational diabetes. These are the three categories that it has been divided into over a period of time.

Type 1 Diabetes was earlier referred to as juvenile - onset diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. In this type of diabetes the pancreas fails to produce insulin to effectively control blood sugar levels. It is developed in childhood or early adulthood and is generally life long. As a matter of fact it can strike at any time. These patients require regular insulin injections for survival. This type of diabetes is associated with autoimmunity, a condition that is not yet fully understood. Type 1 diabetes is caused by environmental factors like diet, viruses or is passed on genetically.

Symptoms of Type 1 diabetes are as follows: fatigue, absence of menstruation abdominal pain, increased thirst, vomiting, nausea, weight loss despite increased appetite and increased urination.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common of them all. In this case the body does not produce the required amount of insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. It is the insulin that converts the glucose to energy for the body to make use of. Build up of glucose in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells causes two problems, right away, your cells are starved for energy and over a period of time the high glucose levels may hurt your kidneys, nerves, eyes or heart. Type2 diabetes also increases the risk of heart disease, kidney damage, blindness and nerve damage. Symptoms of Type 2 diabetes are as follows, increased hunger, frequent urination, fatigue, dry mouth, increased thirst, headaches, loss of consciousness ( which is rare), blurred vision, weight loss (even though feeling hungry and eating), recent weight gain, frequent yeast infections and itching skin.

Gestational diabetes is prevalent in women and is usually detected at the time of pregnancy, normally during the fifth or sixth month. It is a condition in which the blood glucose levels are high during pregnancy. There is no particular reason as to why but it is a belief that the hormones produced during the time of pregnancy increase a woman's resistance to insulin thus impairing the glucose tolerance. There is a possibility of the patient developing Type 2 diabetes after the pregnancy. However, the condition is treatable but their offspring are more likely to be obese and at a risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later on in life. Most of patients are advised and treated only with a diet modification plan and moderate exercise, while some take insulin and other anti-diabetic medications. Normally Gestational Diabetes goes away after the infant is born. Symptoms of Gestational diabetes include, excessive hunger or thirst, excessive urination, recurrent vaginal infections, excessive weight gain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, bladder and yeast infection, blurred vision, unusual weight loss and irritability.

The symptoms are very similar in all types of diabetes. Fear sets in once a person is diagnosed with diabetes and that is easily understandable. At the same time let me tell you that it is not the end of the world. Your compliance with the doctor's recommendations will enhance the quality of your precious life.

Sometimes, the symptoms of diabetes can be difficult to identify because many of the common symptoms may not be present in all cases and they can appear and then disappear again. Additionally, some of the symptoms can also occur in other medical conditions making it more puzzling.

However, there are some classic symptoms or characteristics that are unique to diabetics. Frequent urination, extreme thirst and sudden severe weight loss for no reason are some examples of classic symptoms that suggests the possibility of diabetes. But sometimes no symptoms appear in Type 2 diabetes.

One distinctive attribute of diabetes is characterized by excessive levels of blood glucose from deficiencies in insulin production. But, there are differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes (a.k.a. juvenile or insulin-dependent diabetes) often develops in children and young adults, whereas Type 2 diabetes (a.k.a. non insulin dependent) often develops in adulthood.

Another marked symptom of diabetes (both Type 1 and 2) is continual fatigue. Glucose is the major source of energy for our body, it powers the body's functions from cell repair to major muscle movements. Since insulin is unable to perform its function properly by regulating the level of glucose in the bloodstream, the diabetic will feel lethargic.

Other symptom of diabetes is blurred vision. However, blurred vision can also due to aging such as presbyopia (age-related problem with near vision). It typically starts at middle age, and is due to age-related loss of elasticity of the lens. But the cause in the case of diabetes can lead to blindness. This is because higher blood sugar levels can start to damage the blood vessels in the back of the eye in the retina over time.

People with Type 2 diabetes are at increased risk for the development of infection and impaired wound healing. Cuts (particularly on the feet) are slower to heal. The effect of diabetes on wound healing is not yet fully understood and continues to be a focus of further research. Diabetics need to pay special attention to their diabetes care in general as well as to the critical illness, wound, or ulcer.

Tingling or numbness in hands and feet is also a warning sign or symptom of diabetes, especially Type 2 diabetes. Unlike Type 1 diabetes where multiple daily injections of insulin and blood glucose tests are needed, Type 2 diabetes can often be treated with dietary and lifestyle changes. Type 2 is relatively easier to manage than Type 1 diabetes.

Since so many of these symptoms can also be produced by other medical conditions, the best thing to do in order to confirm whether you have diabetes or not, is to seek a professional help for proper diagnosis. Just a simple blood test will do the job.

Diabetes is present in 8% of people in the United States. 90-95% of the people with diabetes have Type 2 diabetes.

Diagnosis of diabetes depends on laboratory documentation of an elevated fasting blood sugar >125 mg/dl, an elevated 2-hour blood sugar of 200 mg/dl or more 2-hours after a 75 gram oral glucose tolerance test, or a random blood sugar of 200 mg/dl or more with typical diabetes symptoms.

An HA1c of 6.5% or more may also be used as another method of diagnosis. The HA1c must be obtained from a laboratory (not one of the mail-order or pharmacy self-test kits).

Before diabetes is diagnosed, many people complain of symptoms which suggest elevated blood sugar levels.

Although symptoms typically appear when blood sugar levels are greater than 200 mg/dl, there is considerable variability.

Some people notice symptoms with sugar levels in the mid-100's, while others may deny complaints even when sugar levels rise well above 200 mg/dl.

Lack of symptoms is especially common when sugar levels have been elevated for prolonged periods of time.

#1)Increased Urination

Increased frequency of urination is the most common reason that people seek medical attention for diabetes.

There is no threshold for diagnosis of increased urinary frequency. It is simply an increase from your baseline.

Increased urinary frequency may also be due to increased fluid intake, a urinary tract infection, or, less commonly an inability of your body to hold on to water.

The different causes of urinary frequency can often be diagnosed in your physician's office by obtaining a careful history and providing a urine sample.

Once blood sugar levels return to normal, urinary frequency also quickly returns to normal.

If increased urinary frequency persists in the setting of normal blood sugar levels, alternative causes need to be considered.

#2)Changes in Vision

Visual changes are another reason people seek medical attention to rule out diabetes.

Changes may include complaints of "double vision", difficulty reading printed materials or watching TV, or a significant change in prescription glasses.

Visual symptoms are due to sugar-induced changes in the shape of the lens of your eye.

Since similar complaints can be caused by eye problems not related to elevated sugars, evaluation by an opthamologist is critical.

Once sugar levels are normalized, visual complaints gradually resolve. Unlike urinary frequency, the return to normal vision may take several weeks.

#3)Numbness

Another common complaint associated with elevated blood sugars is numbness.

The numbness typically occurs in the feet, but may also involve the hands.

Characteristically, the numbness begins in the toes, then "spreads" to the feet. Numbness may later extend to the foot and mid-leg. The thigh is rarely involved.

Numbness is worse at rest (people often complain of symptoms at night when trying to go to sleep), and is almost always bilateral.

The numbness may be accompanied by severe, stabbing pains as well as extreme sensitivity to touch.

Although symptoms typically resolve soon after sugar levels have returned to normal, some people note continued complaints.

Since other nerve-related problems may cause numbness of the feet and hands, careful medical evaluation is needed. Other causes should be considered if the numbness or pain is associated with exercise, if the symptoms are one-sided, or if there is associated back pain.

Other symptoms of high blood sugar include unintentional weight loss, increased hunger, increased frequency of infections (especially vaginal yeast infections in women), slow healing of wounds and unexplained fatigue.

If you have any of these symptoms, contact your physician to schedule further evaluation.

Remember that there can be significant variability in the severity and duration of these symptoms.

Take an active role in the management of your health.

Make a difference in your life, starting today.

Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism. Metabolism is an internal process to convert food for energy and growth. The main types of diabetes are type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes.

Diabetes affects 18.2 million people - 6.3 percent of the U.S. population. It is the leading cause of death and disability. It costs the U.S. government approximately $132 billion per year. Anybody of any age can get diabetes.

People are more prone to diabetes with a family history of diabetes and over weight. Type 2 diabetes usually affects older people, overweight and sedentary people. Type 2 diabetes is most common and is found in 90-95 percent of people.

What causes diabetes type 2?

Digestion and assimilation of food are the main processes of our digestive cycles. Blood transports the glucose throughout our body. This glucose provides energy for immediate consumption and also stores as future storage. If there is any imbalance in metabolism, glucose converted into fat and stored into fat cell.

In order to transform glucose into energy, cells require a hormone called insulin. Insulin is produced by the islets of Langerhans present in the pancreas. The pancreas produces sufficient amount of insulin, but the cells of the body cannot utilize the insulin due to some unknown reason. This inability to utilize the insulin by the cells is known as insulin insufficiency.

Over several years, the pancreas due to non-utilization of insulin stops or reduces its production of insulin. The glucose remains in the blood unutilized, and increases the level of sugar in the blood. Your cells are not getting required energy. Extra glucose is taken up by the urinary system and thrown out of the body along with urine.

Thus the main fuel of the body is thrown out while the cells desperately needing glucose, starve and become weak, causing fatigue, nausea, and vomiting besides other complex conditions like vascular degeneration, nervous tension, renal failure, diabetic retinopathy, gum infection, necrosis of cells of extremities requiring amputation, and ischemic attacks including but not limited to myocardial infarction.

Type 2 diabetes increases your risk other serious complications. Some complications of type 2 diabetes include: cardiovascular disease, retinopathy, nerve damage, and kidney problem.

Do I Have A Type 2 Diabetes Symptom?

So, how do you know if you are having type 2 diabetes symptoms? After all, almost 6 million Americans are type 2 diabetics and do not even know about it. How is that possible? What may be happening is that they associate the type 2 diabetes symptom as an illness of another kind, or they may be at the beginning stages of the disease. In case you suspect that you have a type 2 diabetes symptom, there are other things that need to be considered.

The most typical symptoms are increased thirst or hunger, weight loss, fatigue, increased urination, blurred vision and sores that do not heal by themselves.

If you are in good physical condition and have less than 45 years of age, it is quite probable that these symptoms are related to another illness. Nevertheless, if you are overweight and/or over 45 years of age, you should make an appointment with your doctor and tell him about your worries. It may be nothing, but it is better to attack type 2 diabetes symptom at the beginning.

Early detection of diabetes based on the symptoms or regular check up with Diabetes Prevention Centre can prevent further damage of your internal organs by proper medication. Research has demonstrated that people at risk for type 2 diabetes can prevent or delay developing type 2 diabetes by losing a little weight. The research results showed that moderate diet changes and exercise can delay and prevent type II diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus is now considered as an epidemic disease in most of countries. This article is about risk causes management of 3 most common types of diabetes mellitus

what are types of Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes is classified into 3 types.

1-Type 1 Diabetes

2-Type 2 Diabetes

3-Gestational Diabetes

Here we will discuss one by one all three types of diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes is also called Juvenile Diabetes, Insulin dependent diabetes or Autoimmune Diabetes. Person with type 1 diabetes has immune response against his own beta cells of pancreas, so pancreas is unable to produce insulin at-all.That is why it is called as autoimmune diabetes. Juvenile diabetes usually occurs in children but can appear at any age. To live normal life patient has to take insulin and take regular exercise and has proper diet plan. The main cause of this type 1 diabetes are environmental factors like virus, diet or chemicals in people genetically predisposed. In USA 10-15% diagnosed cases of diabetes mellitus comprises of type 1 diabetes. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes are increase urination, increase thirst, increase hunger and weight loss. Eyes may also be affected as blurred vision. The person with type 1 diabetes should be diagnosed earlier, otherwise it can lead to a medical emergency situation like diabetic Coma with kitoacidosis.

Type 2 Diabetes:

Type 2 Diabetes is also called as Non Insulin dependent diabetes Mellitus or Adult-onset diabetes. This is most common type of diabetes affecting nearly 80% of all cases of diabetes. It is usually seen in adults. There are two mechanisms of type 2 diabetes. Either there is deficiency of insulin, or there is increase resistance of insulin. Insulin resistance means that body is unable to use available insulin. The main cause of this type of diabetes is genetic however other factors like overweight, obesity, high blood pressure, lack of exercise, overeating habits may also affect.About 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes in-contrast to type 1 develop very slowly. There may be fatigue, weight loss, increase urination, blurred vision or delay wound healing. This type of diabetes is treated with exercise, diet control, tablets. However later, you may need insulin injections as well.

Gestational Diabetes:

Some women who develop diabetes during later stages of pregnancy is called as Gestational diabetes. Though their glucose levels returns to normal but even then they have greater chances of developing diabetes mellitus within next 5 to 10 years. Women with gestational diabetes may have no symptoms at all. The cause of gestational diabetes is hormonal imbalance during pregnancy or insufficient Insulin. Child of women who develops gestational diabetes is also at high risk of developing diabetes in later life. Maintaining normal body weight and being physically active may help prevent development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a patient of gestational diabetes.

Herbal supplement for diabetes mellitus has gained popularity among patients. This is because diabetes is a serious health problem. In fact it is one of the top leading diseases that cause death. The severity of this ailment pushes people to look for treatment that is effective in preventing diabetes. Anyone can have diabetes especially if it runs in the family. Now, there are three major types of diabetes. These are the type 1, type 2 and Gestational diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is commonly called juvenile diabetes because patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 are children. Patients of this type of diabetes lack insulin in their system which results to increased blood glucose and urine glucose.

Type 2 diabetes is an adult-onset diabetes. Obviously, patients are in their middle age. Most patients who have this type of diabetes are obese, or have hypertension, or high cholesterol levels, and other factors.

Gestational diabetes mostly happens to pregnant women who have high blood glucose level. This type of diabetes though temporary may lead to type 2 diabetes in later period. Babies whose mothers have gestational diabetes have higher risk of other health related problems.

Herbal Supplement for Diabetes

These types of diabetes may take diabetic food supplements under the supervision of their attending physicians. It is always wise to consult your doctor first if you plan to incorporate herbal supplements in your treatment.

Although modern medicine has done a great job in arresting the symptoms of diabetes, still, it can not be denied that herbal supplements can have positive effects. This is due to active ingredients containing essential nutrients without the threat of any adverse effects.

What are common herbal supplements that are especially formulated for people with diabetes?

There are so many dietary supplements for diabetics. Most of these supplements have the ability to lower the blood sugar or govern the insulin production in your body. The ingredients are either herbs, spices or other vegetations.

Here are the top 5 common ingredients:

• Bitter Gourd, also know as bitter melon, has been used for many centuries. In fact, people can cook it. It is categorize as an herb. It contains Charantin, a very powerful hypoglycemic agent. The effectiveness of bitter gourd is comparable to any hypoglycemic drugs.

• Bilberry is similar to blueberries but is famous in regulating insulin levels which is due to the presence of Anthocyanins, a form of flavonoids effective in controlling blood sugars.

• Fenugreek is another herb that has alkaloids, individually known as gentianine, trigonelline, and carpaine. These substances in Fenugreek are responsible in lowering the blood sugar levels.

• Gymnema Sylvestre is an herb found in India which has glycosides called Gymnemic acids. The acid is known to have the ability to defy glucose, thus lower the blood sugar levels.

• Basil leaves, specifically the holy basil or locally called "Tulsi" in India, is also very effective in assisting the pancreas to produce a good amount of insulin.

There are other plants that have curative effects for diabetes. But before taking any of it, you have to make sure that you discuss it with your doctor and ask them what they think of the herbal supplement for diabetes.

When we hear a physician diagnose someone as having diabetes (without any limiting modification), he is, in all probability, referring to 'diabetes mellitus.' This condition is characterized by superfluities of glucose in the blood and urine resulting from an abnormal carbohydrate metabolism.

Diabetes mellitus is a serious and common disease. In the United States, medical records show that it occurs in about two percent of males and close to five percent of females. Its onset is possible at any stage of life. In most cases, diabetes mellitus manifests itself after some serious infection or injury. It may also become evident due to emotional strain. Persons who are overweight are known to suffer from this disease more than those who are within the normal weight range.

Symptoms of diabetes mellitus are almost the same for cases that commence during childhood and during the adult years. These include an excessive production of urine, an ardent desire for liquids, a feeling of weakness, and itchy skin. A medical examination of a person who has diabetes mellitus will reveal the presence of glucose in the blood in an amount that is much higher than the normal volume. This excess blood sugar is caused by the inability of the body to use up glucose as quickly as it is stored and released by the liver. Consequently, rather than being utilized for energy production, glucose that builds up in the blood gets washed off along with the urine.

Certain secondary conditions are likely to develop if diabetes mellitus remains untreated. One such serious complication is kidney disease. The loss of bladder control - resulting in the urge to urinate frequently - is also possible. Likewise, the skin and other body tissues become more prone to infections. In more serious cases, losing consciousness is almost always a certainty.

A lot of medical experts point to diet as probably the most vital factor in the successful handling of diabetes mellitus. A person with this disease can enjoy a normal diet, taking care that he or she neither eats to excess nor consumes too little of the needed nutrients. Controlling the blood-sugar level by means of administering insulin is another important factor in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. For the millions of diabetics out there, wouldn't it be a great relief for you to know that there is actually a sure way to banish your particular case of diabetes mellitus for good?

Diabetes mellitus, or "sugar" diabetes, refers to the bodies inability to appropriately manage blood sugar levels. In order to understand this disease, we have to first understand the hormone insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for managing blood sugar levels. In essence, when there is lots of sugar floating around in the blood (ie: after eating a candy bar), insulin is secreted by special cells in the pancreas known as β-cells. Insulin then travels around the body and binds to receptors on many different tissue types where it exerts a specific effect. For example, insulin binds to cells in the liver. This binding instructs hepatocytes (ie: liver cells) to remove glucose from the blood and store it in a polymerized form known as glycogen. The goal of all these effects is to bring the blood sugar level back within normal limits.

The problem in diabetes mellitus is that insulin is either not secreted by the pancreas, or does not perform its function appropriately. Therefore, very high blood sugar levels can occur.

There are two forms of diabetes:
- Type 1
- Type 2

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an auto-immune disorder, which means that the body literally attacks itself. In this case, the body attacks the β-cells in the pancreas. The result is that the body is no longer able to secrete insulin.

The pathology of type 2 diabetes is more complicated. It is believed to be caused by a combination of different factors. Genetics, lifestyle, and diet all seem to play an important role.

In type 2 diabetes the pancreas is still able to produce insulin. However, the problem is that insulin does not have its normal effect on other body tissues. This is known as "insulin resistance." In an effort to combat this resistance, the pancreas secretes more insulin. Eventually the insulin resistance becomes too severe; the pancreas can no longer keep up, and blood sugar levels begin to rise. If they rise beyond a specific laboratory threshold the diagnosis of diabetes is made.

Most of the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes are the same. In both cases, the sugar level in the blood is high but is not available to the cells in the body.

In type 1 diabetes, the most common cause is lack of insulin due to the destruction of the pancreas, the organ which is responsible for insulin production. In type 2 diabetes, the cells become resistant to insulin. In both cases, you experience the signs and symptoms of diabetes such as:

Frequent Urination

Since sugar can no longer be used by the cells, they will stay in the bloodstream. When there is excess sugar in our blood, it will pull fluid from the tissues. This fluid will dilute the excess sugar and wash them out of the body through the urine. This is the body's mechanism of getting rid of the sugar from the bloodstream.

Increased Thirst

Frequent urination has little to do with the increase in thirst. The main reason why diabetic people always feel thirsty is due to the fact that fluids are being pulled out from the tissues. To replace fluid to the tissues, the body's primary response is to feel thirsty.

Extreme Hunger

When we eat, the food will be broken down and will be converted to sugar. This sugar is absorbed in the blood to be delivered in the cells of the body. In order for these sugars to be transferred to the cells, insulin is needed. Insulin works as a transporter of sugar from the blood to the cells. However, in the case of diabetes, there is not enough insulin. So what happens is, the sugar stays in the blood and the cells don't get any sugar. This is why you will feel hungry even if you eat a lot of food.

Weight Loss

Even if you eat a lot, you will still lose weight. It is because the sugar cannot be transported to the cells. We all know the sugar is the source of the body's energy. During times when sugar is not available for the cells to use, the body's response would be to break down stored fats or even muscles and convert them to useful energy. When fats are broken down, you will lose weight.

These are the main signs and symptoms of diabetes. Other symptoms include weakness and fatigue, tingling or numbness of the legs, feet or hands, frequent infections and dryness of the skin.

During the late stage of the disease, the most common symptom that some people experience is a wound that takes too long to heal. This commonly occurs in the feet. There a number of reasons for this. One is poor circulation. When the sugar levels in the blood are high, the tendency is that the fatty deposits build up in the artery walls which and damage the proteins in along the arteries, not allowing blood to circulate effectively. Other reasons are due to nerve damage and the immune system is not working well due to the presence of high levels of sugar in the blood.

If you experience these symptoms, don't hesitate to visit your doctor for a medical check up. Your doctor will prick your hand to check for your blood sugar level.

Since diabetes has become such a widespread disease, you really should take the time to familiarize yourself with some of the most common diabetes symptoms. Letting a condition like diabetes go untreated can result in serious consequences and can even be life threatening if you don't get proper treatment. So by learning what types of diabetes symptoms to look for, you will be able to see your doctor right away should you start experiencing any of them.

Diabetes is a disease in which the sooner you start to get treatment, the better off you are. The good news is that there are many early symptoms that you can watch for that can allow you to catch the disease in its early stages.

The first and one of the most common symptoms is having extreme thirst. So if you all of sudden start feeling thirsty all the time and this is not normal for you, then you may want to tested for diabetes.

Another common diabetes symptom is having dry or itchy skin. Since anyone can have dry skin from time to time, this diabetes symptom can sometimes be overlooked as just a normal condition. But now that you are aware that it can be a symptom of diabetes, don't overlook it in the future.

Several other diabetic symptoms you should be aware of include unusual weight loss, drowsiness, frequent urination, increased fatigue, and blurry vision. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should take them seriously by seeing your doctor and getting tested for diabetes.

Once you have confirmed that the symptoms you have been experiencing have been caused by diabetes, you may be wondering what kind of treatment options are out there. Treatment for diabetes will often depend on several personal factors including the severity of your condition and your weight.  The next step you will need to take is to consult with your doctor so you can work with them to come up with the best diabetes treatment plan.

As you may be aware, diabetes is often referred to as a silent killer. Even though there are a number of symptoms and warning signs, it is very easy to dismiss them. Unless you have your blood sugar checked each year by a professional lab it will be very hard to make sure that you catch diabetes early enough. That said, if you have any of the following symptoms, it may be a good idea to check in with your doctor and demand to have a Hemo A1C test as well as one for fasting blood sugar. Even if your insurance company does not want to pay for the Hemo A1C test, you can talk to them before hand and make sure that you get the help that you need.

Excessive Thirst

When your body cannot digest carbohydrates, the excess will be eliminated through your kidneys. This, in turn, will require more water. Aside from feeling thirsty, you will also wind up urinating more often. Unfortunately, if you are active during the day, you may attribute excessive thirst to many other things. Without a question, if your water consumption levels change, you should check to make sure it is not being caused by diabetes.

Dizziness or Sleepiness After Eating Carbohydrates

If you do not eat too many carbohydrates during mealtime, your body should be able to reduce glucose levels fairly quickly. This is usually accomplished when your pancreas emits a bolus of short acting insulin. Many diabetics cannot make this form of insulin on their own. As a result, blood sugar levels can skyrocket to well over 200 after a meal. Depending on how high it goes, you may feel dizzy or sleepy. In severe cases, you may even go into a coma. Without a question, if you notice dizziness or sleepiness after eating on a regular basis, you should talk to your doctor about it immediately.

Slow Healing of Wounds

Excessively high blood sugar levels cause harm to almost every type of cell in the body. This includes bone marrow cells that are responsible for producing white blood cells and platelets. If you notice that wounds take longer to heal, or they get infected, you may have an underlying problem with diabetes. As with so many other things, this problem may get worse as you get older. That said, as soon as you think something may not be right, it is time to see your doctor. In general, it is better to ask for a simple blood test rather than sit around and wait for things to get worse.

There are many different symptoms that can indicate you may have diabetes. In many cases, you will actually be aware that something is wrong. Unfortunately, many people are afraid of saying something to their doctor because they do not want to appear like a hypochondriac. On the other hand, finding out if you are diabetic is one of the easiest issues to resolve. Your doctor will not judge you for bringing up symptoms that seem perfectly normal. All he/she will do is send you for a simple blood test that will help set your mind at ease, as well as his/hers.

It seems that the number of people getting inflicted with diabetes increases year by year. This is indeed an alarming phenomenon and if no one heeds the call to regulate and control diabetes, many people will be in a precariously unhealthy situation.

Diabetes knows no barrier and it can attack anyone irrespective of color, gender or age. Despite campaigns worldwide on the dangers of diabetes and the insistence of controlled sugar consumption, the occurrence of diabetes goes unabated.

There are many natural remedies to combat and eliminate diabetes but doctors sadly still go for the prescription pad to combat the disease. Imagine the effect of treating diabetes using, say, an anti diabetic drug that has an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality as one of its side effects? How ironic.

Simply, it is what you consume that can cause diabetes. So we must be very selective in the type of foods that we take everyday. You have to practise wise eating. Only then will you be able to keep diabetes at bay. The range of food that you can eat without is enormous. You can consume, without restriction, any amount of fish, fowl, vegetables, and meat (with restraint). These foods can be prepared for feast fit for a king.

Enjoy your meals if you must but if you sort of having the symptoms below, then it is better that you go for a health screening to eliminate diabetes:

1 You have the tendency to urinate very frequently and you always feel hungry and thirsty.

2. You tend to lose weight very easily without any effort. Again you would feel lethargic and tires easily.

3. You will experience blurred vision

4. There is numbness and tingling sensation in your limbs

5. Your skin tends to be very dry and there is itchiness.

As we rapidly find our way approaching fall and winter, seasonal influenza and colds are bound to start manifesting themselves quickly. In its latest Swine Flu update, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said twenty one states are already reporting widespread flu activity.

Physicians state they're afraid the two flu strains (H1N1 Swine Flu and seasonal flu) could merge together creating additional complications to an already frightened society. If you then add in the common cold, which is the most common virus this time of the year, there is a chance that immune systems can be compromised by a one two punch.

How can people figure out if the sniffles and runny nose they are having are something that they should be worried about? Infectious disease experts explain that the public should to be cognizant of the symptoms. Dr. Shmuel Shoham, an infectious-disease medical specialist at Washington Hospital Center, states the cold, seasonal flu and H1N1 swine flu are each respiratory diseases, but they are induced by dissimilar viruses.

Symptoms of the common cold are consistent with most people and may cause the patient to be quite miserable for three to five days. A person will commonly suffer from a stuffy nose, congestion, aches and pains, and in some instances a cough will develop.

As reported by the CDC they state that seasonal flu and H1N1 Swine Flu symptoms are fever, severe aches and pains, dry coughing, diarrhea and fatigue or lethargy. It can be almost impossible without and examination or test to differentiate the seasonal form of flu from the H1N1 Swine Flu that is currently being studied.

"People should acknowledge once they start to feel bad. Whenever they begin to have respiratory troubles, or are dehydrated because of illness, they need go to see their doctor. It could be Swine Flu or seasonal flu," says Shoham. "A few people with influenza could become very ill and may end up in the hospital if it has not been attended to."

Most at Risk

The population at the largest risk for catching H1N1 Swine Flu include adolescents and young adults up to twenty five years, pregnant women, and people with prolonged health conditions similar to asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease. The CDC has advocated that these groups as well as health care workers are first on the vaccination list.

The seasonal flu vaccination is particularly crucial for anyone that has a chance for serious flu complications, reported by the CDC, including adolescents, anyone with a weak immune system, women who are planning a pregnancy during the influenza season, people that are fifty years or older, and health care professionals like nurses and doctors.

Prevention is the Best Medicine

Other than flu shots there are additional ways to remain healthy and have a high chance of resisting these illnesses. Physicians will tell you to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or a hand sanitizer and keep your fingers away from your face. If you need to sneeze you should sneeze into your elbow so that you don't spread your germs to your hands or everyone and everything else in the immediate area.

Whenever you become sick and have severe symptoms you should call your health care practitioner. Your family doctor may recommend antiviral drugs that will address the flu. Antiviral drugs are prescriptions (pills, liquid or an inhaled powder) that battle the flu by keeping the virus from multiplying throughout your system giving your immune system a better chance to fight off the infection.

Most importantly, stay away from other people. If you have the flu, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends you remain home for at the very least 24 hours after your fever is gone. This is the best way to keep other people from contracting the seasonal or H1N1 Swine Flu virus

Keep your immune system strong and healthy. The best way to do this is by eating a healthy selection of foods including many fruits and vegetables. Get a lot of sleep or rest and remain active as well. Some of the best vitamins to begin taking are Vitamin D, Vitamin C. Add these to your daily nutritional plan to begin building your immune system now. Don't wait for and outbreak, start today!

The influenza disease is an illness which affects the upper respiratory system. Influenza signs and symptoms can vary, but are often similar to the common cold, except that relatively high fevers are almost always present in cases of the flu, but rarely in adults who have a cold. Although most people recover quickly from the flu, there is a risk of developing complications in some people.

The influenza disease is caused by infection with an influenza virus. The symptoms of the common cold can be caused by any of nearly 200 different viruses, including the rhinovirus, corona virus or influenza virus. The stomach flu is caused by an infection with the norovirus. Although the names are similar and people often refer to either condition as "the flu", influenza signs and symptoms (other than headache and fever) are quite different from those associated with the stomach flu. What is referred to as "cold and flu season" is not actually caused by changes in the weather, but by an increase in indoor activities and close contact among large groups of children and adults in school settings.

If you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, then you have probably been infected with a norovirus. Stomach flu is sometimes referred to as gastroenteritis or food poisoning, because the symptoms are the same. Stomach flu symptoms appear suddenly and usually last less than three days. Influenza signs and symptoms can last for as long as ten days, usually beginning with fever, body aches and chills and ending with cold-like symptoms (runny or stuffy nose, dry cough, sore throat, etc.) usually noticed after the other symptoms improve.

Influenza disease, stomach flu and the common cold are all contagious diseases. The viruses can be transmitted from one person to another by close contact, touching contaminated surfaces or eating contaminated food. The ways to avoid these viruses include avoiding close contact with those who are obviously sick, washing hands after touching public surfaces and keeping the hands away from the mouth, nose and eyes. Antibiotics cannot kill any of these infections, as they are all viral infections. A visit to the doctor is usually unnecessary, unless fever is unusually high or prolonged or symptoms of bacterial infection or other complications occur. A cough that produces mucus may indicate bronchitis or pneumonia. Pain in the ears can indicate an ear infection. Severe headache, facial pain and pain in the teeth can indicate a sinus infection.

Those people who are at high risk for developing complications from influenza disease should call their doctor within 48 hours of developing symptoms, as anti-viral medications are sometimes prescribed to shorten the duration and severity of influenza signs and symptoms in these people, as well as to reduce the chances of spreading the virus among these groups. Those people who are at high risk include people older than 50, nursing home and long-term care residents, people with heart problems, lung disease, diabetes, kidney problems, sickle cell disease and children who are on an aspirin therapy regimen and anyone who suffers from an impaired immune system, including those who are taking immuno-suppressive drugs. Women in their second or third trimester of pregnancy also have an increased risk of developing complications from the virus.

Scientific research has shown that some vitamins, minerals, herbs and other natural products can be used to shorten the duration and severity of influenza signs and symptoms. These can also be taken safely as a regular health supplement to reduce the likelihood of developing influenza disease and other viral infections.

The shortened word for the disease 'influenza' is known as the 'flu.' Other than man, it also affects birds and mammals. It can be identified by common symptoms like fever, sore throat, pain in muscles, headache, coughing, irritation in the eyes and fatigue. Generally confused with the common cold, flu can also be dangerous and cause death if the condition worsens. Children affected mostly suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and pain in the abdomen. It must be understood that flu cannot be distinguished from common cold or other viral and bacterial disease only on the basis of symptoms which the patient exhibits. Only a thorough medical checkup and tests can help distinguish the type of flu and the suitable remedy can be administered by a medical professional. There are antiviral influenza drugs that are used to treat flu.

The virus is divided into three types, designated A, B and C. The first two are associated with respiratory illness and may cause death. Type C causes mild respiratory problems and can be easily cured with vaccines. The majority of health reports point at curing the health problems caused by the A and B virus.

In the early stages of infection, it is usually confused with common cold but influenza is identified with high fever and extreme fatigue. In cases of humans affected with bird flu, diarrhea can be the symptom. It can also easily affect persons (especially sick children and elderly as they have low immune power and even pregnant women) and persons suffering from asthma, heart disease and diabetes. It can be life threatening in cases of persons affected with HIV or patients whose immune power is medically suppressed to help transplants. Persons who have chronic problems can develop further complications like sinus, infections in the ear, worsening of pulmonary diseases like bronchitis and dehydration. Other symptoms include a running nose, burning sensation in chest etc. If proper treatment is not given, they can contract bacterial or viral pneumonia can prove fatal.

Seasonal flu usually occurs in the winter season as there are more chances of spreading infection. Measles and pertussis or whooping cough, may help in the transfer of flu among children. The other diseases that are confused with the flu and can cause similar type of symptoms include the respiratory syncytial virus, which causes illness in young children and elderly people above 85 years. The other type of complication that occurs mostly in children is called as the 'Reye's syndrome' when patients develop symptoms such as severe vomiting, confusion, loss of consciousness and dehydration which may cause swelling of brain.

It doesn't matter if it's a disease of the liver of a gall bladder affection, jaundice is the main symptom. If one notices that his skin color becomes jaundiced he can almost be sure he has an issue with his gall bladder or liver. The eyes also get an yellow color, instead of the characteristic white. The jaundice appears because the old blood isn't filtered out correctly. If the jaundice appears with flu like symptoms together then a medical control is required because it may be a result of hepatitis or serious damage taken by the gall bladder.

In the Asian medicine Jaundice is splitted in two types, the Yin Jaundice and the Yang Jaundice. The first one is mainly characterized by the whole body being colored in a vivid yellow, thirst, coloring of the tongue (yellow). The second, the Yin jaundice turns the face, the eyes, and the skin slightly grey. Yin jaundice produces low fever, nausea, no appetite and palpitations.

If you constantly have a bad appetite then you should consider having some medical test because this is one of the symptoms of liver disease. This will lead to decreasing of body weight and a not balanced metabolism that will lead to an unusual, unhealthy quantity of carbohydrates and fat in the blood. Another result of this symptom is anemia. This is the most severe consequence of a bad appetite. If a person developed anemia it is very possible that he will develop a disease in the liver cells (hepatocytes). Vomiting and nausea will appear, and in the vomit there are big chances that blood will be found. Ulcers have an increased risk rate if anemia is left untreated.

If you notice that your stool is too light colored then this may happen because the quantity of bile produced is too small. If this happens constantly then you can be sure that you have some liver or gall bladder issues. Bile isn't secreted in the right amounts or it won't reach the intestines because of the stones that may block the way.

Another common symptom is polyuria, also known as excessive urinating. This symptom appears at more than just this disease. A consequence of polyuria is polydypsia that is excessive thirst.

Other symptoms that may appear are strokes, depressions, spasms, allergies, seizures, colored yes (red, yellow) and mood swings (irritability.)
