Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a condition wherein the body cannot regulate the amount of sugar especially the glucose in the blood. There are two types of diabetes the type I and the type II. What are the diabetes symptons, and what are the things that we need to do to avoid having diabetes mellitus? What are the procedures we can do to detect or to check if we are at risk or carrier of diabetes mellitus?

We classified diabetes as type I if the body stops producing insulin or produces too little insulin to regulate blood glucose level. It comprises about 10% of total cases of diabetes. Type I is typically recognized in childhood or adolescence, this is what we called juvenile-onset diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Type I diabetes mellitus is usually occur in an individual this is because of the destruction of pancreas b alcohol, disease, or removal by surgery. It can also be the result of progressive failure of the pancreatic beta cells-producer of insulin. In type II diabetes, this is the state wherein the pancreas secretes insulin but our body is unable to use that insulin. This is what we called insulin resistance. Our body tries to overcome the resistance by secreting more and more insulin. A person can develop diabetes type II if they have insulin resistance and they do not continue to secrete enough insulin to cope with the higher demands.

What are the diabetes symptons, for type 1 is often dramatic and come very suddenly it is usually recognized in childhood or early adolescence, it is often associated with an illness like virus or urinary tract infection and also injury. The extra stress can cause diabetic ketoacidosis which includes nausea and vomiting. If the ketoacidosis will not be treated it can lead to coma and death. For type 2 the diabetes symptons are often subtle and may be attributed to aging or obesity. In type II you can have diabetes without even knowing it, they can develop hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketotic symdrome. It can be precipitated by steroid and stress. If those diabetes symptons not be properly treated, it can lead to complications like blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and nerve damage. There are also major diabetes symptons for both major types of diabetes:

- Fatigue

- Unexplained weight loss

- Excessive thirst (polydipsia)

- Excessive urination(polyuria)

- Excessive eating (polyphagia)

- Poor wound healing

- Infections

- Altered mental status

- Blurry vision

We need to seek for medical care if we see anyone having any diabetes symptons. Check up to the doctor is a very good way in this kind of disease because early detection is the best key for further damage.

The procedures that doctors usually do with the patient having diabetes is monitoring blood sugar by means of blood test. A number of laboratory test are performed to confirm the diagnosis of diabetes. Procedures includes are:

-Finger stick blood glucose

-Fasting plasma glucose

-oral glucose tolerance test

-Glycosylated hemoglobin or hemoglobin A1c

Those are the procedure that can be done to test your blood for glucose level. This is done for early detection and monitoring your blood sugar. Knowing the predisposing factors is very important especially the diabetes symptoms because it can lead to more complicated situation and more serious health condition if not be treated properly.

Cat bladder infection can form in any part of your cat's urinary tract (UTI). Infection can be caused by bacteria (28%, viruses (.4%) or fungus. Approximately 1% of cats that visit a veterinarian have a urinary tract infection with the most common type of bacteria being E. coli. Other names for the condition depend on the location of the disease including LUTD or lower Urinary Tract Disease or in the upper urinary tract. Once one part becomes infected, usually it spreads to another part. Because of this it is sometimes difficult to diagnose the exact location of the infection.

Cats tend to contract the infection through the urethra, which is the part of the cat that allows urine to leave the body. For example if this opening comes in contact with a dirty litter box, then bacteria can enter the body and spread up the tract, eventually leading to the bladder causing feline bladder infection. Normal urination can usually keep the urinary tract clean since it is an excellent antimicrobial (bacteria killer), however, if your cat is having bladder problems or is urinating less than usual, then the immune system becomes overwhelmed with the bacteria.

Feline cats that are older than 10 years are at a higher risk to get an infection. It is rare to see the problem in younger cats. Female cats that have been spayed have the highest incidence. Cats that have feline diabetes mellitus are also at risk.

Symptoms of Cat Bladder Infection and UTI

Symptoms of cat urinary infection include blood in the urine (haematuria), excessive frequent urination (pollakiuria), slow and painful urination (stranguria) and urination in inappropriate places such as outside of the litter box (periuria).

Diagnosis of Cat Bladder Infection

The urine will be tested for the presence of an unusual number of white blood cells, the cells which help the body fight infection.

Treatment of Cat Bladder Infection

Antibiotics are used to kill any bacteria associated with the feline bladder infection. The type of antibiotic selected will be based on the specific bacteria causing the infection. Treatment is of a short duration. Some cats may have bacteria which are resistant to antibiotics. In this case different antibiotics and longer term treatment may be required.

The body naturally kills bacteria as urine passes through the urinary tract. Some owners like to supplement the prescription medications with natural remedies which are associated with restoring balance to the entire urinary system and possible a change in diet. Ingredients such as Arctostaphylos uva ursi help maintain the proper PH in the urinary tract so your cat's body can naturally fight infection. Check with your veterinarian on how to combine prescription and natural choices. If your cat eat dry cat food, consider a switch to canned which will provide your cat with more moisture and in turn cleanse the urinary tract due to more frequent urination.

Your cat will be retested several weeks after treatment to ensure that the feline bladder infection is gone.

Prognosis of Cats with Feline Bladder Infection

Treatment in effective in 85% of cats with no additional recurrence. If it is a continuing problem for your cat consider options such as diet and using natural supplements to ensure that your cat's body has the nutrients needed for long term urinary health and the proper PH balance.

Lymphoid tissue is found throughout your whole cat's body. Lymphoma in cats, a disease that affects this tissue, can cause damage to a number of organs. This cancer normally affects cats around ten years of age. Also, cats infected with the leukemia or immunodeficiency virus have an increased risk.

Forms

Cat lymphoma can occur in one of three forms. They include the alimentary, mediastinal, and multicentric forms. The alimentary form affects the digestive tract and surrounding lymph nodes. The mediastinal form affects the chest, thymus, and associated lymph nodes. This is commonly a problem with cats infected with the feline leukemia virus.

The last form of this disease is multicentric. Like the mediastinal variety, it is usually a problem for cats with the leukemia virus. It causes damage to multiple organs and their surrounding lymph nodes.

Symptoms

Unfortunately, lymphoma in cats causes unspecific symptoms. Common signs of this disease include weight loss, decreased appetite, and lethargy. Any other symptoms that your cat experiences will depend on the specific organs that are affected.

Treatment

Cat lymphoma is mainly treated with chemotherapy. If the disease has already spread to multiple areas, this is the only treatment option your cat will have. This medication can be given by an injection, although some cats can take it orally. Radiation, laser, and surgery are options if the cancer is still localized.

Prognosis

Lymphoma in cats is easily a life-threatening disease. The outcome of treatment depends on various factors. These include how early the tumor was detected and its location. If your cat is also battling the leukemia virus, the prognosis will be much worse. Most cats don't survive more than two years, while many die around six months after diagnosis.

Strokes in dogs are very rare. They occur when the blood flow to the brain has been impaired. There are two types of strokes, namely hemorrhagic and schemic. The former occurs when a vessel breaks, while the latter occurs when blood supply is diminished for some reason.

Causes

Canine strokes can occur for a number of reasons. Some occur because of severe trauma to the head, such as being hit by a car. Dogs that ingest poisons may also have a stroke. Underlying medical conditions can also be to blame. Common conditions include Cushing's disease, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and brain tumors.

Symptoms

Unfortunately, strokes in dogs can produce some of the same symptoms caused by other diseases or conditions. Some of the most common signs include head tilting, constant circling, and difficulty walking. It is also common for dogs to experience sudden behavioral changes, loss of bowel control, and blindness.

Diagnosis

If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms, you will need to seek medical assistance quickly. Quick diagnosis and treatment goes a long way towards a complete recovery. The veterinarian will start out by physically examining your dog. If your dog has had a stroke, he will perform a CT scan or MRI to try to determine the cause. These two procedures require that your dog be anesthetized.

Treatment

Canine strokes are treated by determining the underlying medical condition and treated it if possible. Successful treatment of this condition will prevent future strokes. Unfortunately, the damage caused by these strokes is irreparable. Most dogs recover motor functions and have a complete recovery within a few weeks. However, your dog may have certain behavioral changes after having one.

If you've recently found blood in canine urine, you know that can be a bit unsettling. Don't worry yet because most often the conditions that cause this symptom are easy to treat. In this article, you'll learn the common causes of blood in dog urine and what to do about it.

Blood in canine urine can be caused by many factors, but the most common is a urinary tract infection (or UTI). These infections are caused by bacteria, typically e. coli. Since the infection causes inflammation in the bladder which can lead to bleeding and scarring of the delicate tissues, it can be quite painful for your pet.

In addition to a urinary tract infection, canine blood in urine can also be caused by an infection in the bladder system (usually, the kidneys or urethra.) Female dogs are more prone to infections in the urethra because their ureters are shorter than males.

In male dogs, blood in canine urine could be a sign of an infected prostrate gland. If this is the case, you might also notice that your dog's penis and testicles appear to be swollen.

Another possible cause is bladder stones or the accidental ingestion of poisonous household chemicals.

Regardless of what you think the problem is, take your pet to the vet. If your dog is diagnosed with an infected prostate gland or kidneys or ingestion of poisons, your vet will advise the proper treatment. If your dog has a urinary tract infection or a struvite bladder stone, you can treat your dog at home.

Be advised that if blood in canine urine is treatable with antibiotics, you might want to do what a growing number of caring pet owners are doing and treat your dog with a homeopathic remedy instead. The reason for this becomes clear when you understand that antibiotics do not affect a cure; they only suppress the symptoms. This is why many dogs wind up with recurring infections. On top of this, antibiotics have side effects.

Instead of giving your pet antibiotics, try a homeopathic remedy. Unlike drugs, homeopathic remedies actually heal the conditions that cause blood in canine urine in the first place. Homeopathic remedies are completely natural and have no side effects.

Look for a homeopathic remedy that contains proven ingredients like canthansis, berberis and uva ursi. Since these remedies come in granule form, they are easy to administer: just drop a few crystals in your dog's mouth or sprinkle them on his food. They are strong enough to heal your dog's condition, yet gentle enough to use every day for prevention if needed. This is particularly helpful for older dogs or breeds that are prone to urinary problems.

So in summary, if you spot blood in canine urine, get your pet to the vet. If your dog has a urinary tract infection or struvite bladder stones, you can treat your dog with a homeopathic remedy at home. For other more serious conditions, your vet will advise you of the best course of action.

Canine Renal Failure

Canine renal failure refers to when your dog's kidneys are starting to fail. There are two types of the disease - one called Acute and the other Chronic. Both forms of the disease are extremely serious and both will need urgent medical attention. The signs and symptoms of the disease can be very debilitating for your dog, however just because your dog has developed the disease does not mean that your dog is definitely going to die. Yes the prognosis is not positive but it really depends on how much damage has already taken place internally - consequently the earlier you spot the symptoms the better the chances your pooch will have in leading a relatively long life.

The causes of Acute and Chronic Kidney disease may differ so we will explain both. Acute:

* Heart disease can cause this condition

* Foreign poisons including ingestion of antifreeze can also be a contributory factor.

* It is also thought that some antibiotics can cause the disease

* If your dog has had a sudden impact like being hit by a car - this can also cause the kidneys to fail.

Chronic:

* Heart disease is a cause

* If your dog has developed diabetes it is worth getting your dog regularly checked

* Poison is another cause

* Again a sudden impact can also trigger the disease.

The symptoms of Chronic renal failure may include:

* Sudden and very extreme weight loss

* Your dog may start being sick and vomit on occasions

* You may notice behavioral changes in your dog and he may appear quite depressed

* Although constipation is a symptom of the disease, diarrhea can also be a symptom too.

* You may notice that your dog seems weaker than before

* Get close to your dog and smell his breath as their may be a smell of ammonia to it.

* Your dog may have pain that is specifically around your dog;s kidneys

* Watch your dog's water bowl - how much is he drinking - extreme thirst is a very common symptom.

The symptoms of Acute Canine Renal Failure can include:

* Pain may occur around the kidneys

* You may notice that your dog will either urinate more often or not go at all.

* Your dog may be extremely thirsty and drink lots of water.

The Diabetes Food Guide more commonly known as the Food Pyramid for Diabetics is a tool that illustrates in diagram for the amount of foods belonging from each food group a person with diabetes should consume per day. It is a modified version of the food pyramid and is tailor fit for people who want to lose weight and maintain stable blood glucose levels. It shows that the diet should consist mostly of starchy vegetables that have the same complex carbohydrates of whole grain by having peas, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, and beans placed at the bottommost level of the pyramid. Cheese has also been transferred from the Milk Group to the Meat and Others Group because its carbohydrate content is similar to the latter.

Useful Facts about the Diabetes Food Guide

1. Selecting foods in quantities based on the food pyramid can serve as a reliable quick guide towards having enough nutrition while also having a stable blood sugar level.

2. Understanding the proper serving size of carbohydrate-rich foods and how to select the right number of servings per meal is a great way to keep the stability of your blood sugar level.

3. Servings are usually small with a slice of bread or piece of starchy vegetable having a recommended size that should fit in the palm of an average woman.

4. The recommended size of a fruit per serving should not exceed the size of a tennis ball.

5. The recommended serving of milk should equal to that of a small coffee cup.

The Diabetes Food Guide helps make sure that you eat enough foods from each food group and that each food is of better quality in terms of the type of carbohydrates it contains. It is important not only to reduce your consumption of carbohydrates but also to limit your carbohydrate consumption to purely complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates greatly increase the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. Simple carbohydrates are absorbed almost immediately which makes the blood glucose rise extremely fast. Complex carbohydrates on the other hand are broken down into simpler components first and thus the increase in blood glucose is gradual and spikes in sugar levels are avoided.

The Diabetes Food Guide places foods that are low in carbohydrates with the carbohydrates being complex in quality on the bottom levels of the food pyramid. Foods rich in simple carbohydrates on the other hand are placed on the topmost levels.
