Early symptoms of diabetes can set in at any age. A person can be born with it or may develop it later at any stage in his life. If symptoms of diabetes onset later then there are bright chances that the said person is suffering from type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also referred as non insulin dependent diabetes or adult onset diabetes. The symptoms of diabetes indicate that body of the person is not utilizing provided insulin properly. This situation allows an increase in level of blood sugar. If the situation is left untreated then dangerous blood sugar levels can start damaging blood vessels and nerves. This situation further leads to serious health related complications.

It is extremely important that if any person can see warning signs of diabetes setting in then he must see the doctor to learn how to control blood sugar levels. If adult onset diabetes is caught earlier then it can be easily detected with a little bit of lifestyle change.

Frequent Urination And Excessive Thirst

American Diabetes Association has declared that type 2 diabetes often onsets without any warning symptoms or signs. Very early symptoms of adult onset diabetes are so general that a person is unable to connect it with any serious illness. This is the prime reason that it is extremely important to monitor blood sugar levels. The earlier the diagnosis is made the better are the chances of proper and successful treatment. As the blood sugar levels further rises the body makes an extra attempt to bring these levels down. This attempt makes the person feel thirstier and causes him to visit the rest room again and again.

Sudden Weight Loss And Increase In Appetite

High blood sugar level makes the person feel hungry quite often. This happens as the body is not properly utilizing insulin. This also indicates that body is unable to digest the consumed food. The body does not allow efficient conversion into food. This makes the person feel that he is in a constant need of food. At the same time the body is unable to convert this consumed food into fuel so he starts to lose weight. It is critically important that any person must not ignore the warning signs of diabetes. These adult onset diabetes symptoms are subtle but can damage the body for many months or even years.

Tiredness And Slow Healing Wounds

The body has to struggle as it is not getting the required amount of energy. The person starts to feel tired and fatigued. It is true that today's hectic lifestyle makes every person feel tired but excessive and constant fatigue must never be ignored. Diabetes hinders the ability of the body to heal any cut or wound. Slow healing cuts and wounds are another early warning sign of diabetes.

Blurred Vision

Any sudden change in vision must never be ignored. It is important to consult the doctor if you have blurriness in vision or if the vision is getting worse.

Are you concerned about adult onset diabetes symptoms?

That likely means you or someone you love may have the disease. I'm sorry. It can still be devastating despite recent advances in medicine. It's still the number one cause of kidney failure and blindness and the number seven cause of death in America.

The good news is that you're looking for symptoms. And if you get out ahead of the disease you can stop it and even turn it around.

But what do you look for?

Here's the top of the list of adult onset diabetes symptoms (and a very important overlooked fact at the end):

Unquenchable thirst and frequent urination.

Why these two?

They go hand-in-hand. What's happening is that your body's cells are no longer taking in sugar effectively (insulin normally triggers them to do this). So it floats free in your blood.

Once it gets above a concentration of 180 mg/dl, your kidney can't filter it out, and it gets into your urine. Now your urine is soaking up water to dilute the sugar. So your kidneys fill, you have to pee, and you're thirsty.

That's your signal that you have too much sugar in your blood and it's the cause and the beginning of all the bad things you've heard about diabetes.

The basic problem of diabetes is that your cells can't absorbe glucose well. So it ends up in the wrong place.

It's in your blood and urine and not in your cells.

Glucose is your energy source. And your cells can't burn enough because they can't get enough. So your body may start tearing down your muscles and fat, trying to find more.

It can overwhelm your kidneys ability to filter it out. And it can make your eyes swell so you can't focus.

Now, here's the overlooked fact:

You won't experience a lot of the symptoms of adult onset diabetes until your blood glucose hits 180 mg/dl. And you can already be damaging your body before that.

Here's the key to diabetes health - your habits. If you have habits that don't help, your condition gets worse. If you have healthy habits, you live a long life.

Are you tired of wondering if you have diabetes? Do you want to figure out how to stop adult onset diabetes cold?

Ten years ago that might have sounded like a foolish question. I have a friend whose waking blood glucose is high and a decade ago she would have been told to brace herself. Not any more. Today, you can reasonably expect to push back diabetes.

What can you do?

I'll give you three great techniques for turning back diabetes and one serious warning at the end:

1. Check your numbers and accept them. Adult onset diabetes symptoms are pretty black or white these days. In fact, you can check. Get your hemoglobin A1c done by doctor.

Or measure your blood glucose yourself. If your fasting blood glucose (not your waking glucose reading, that's different) is 126 mg/dl or higher, or your after-eating blood glucose is over 200 mg/dl on at least two occasions - you got it.

Don't fudge, don't fight. Go into action.

2. Keep exercising.

There's a myth going around these days that diabetics or pre diabetics should cut back on exercise. Nothing could be further from the truth. Careful diet and religious exercise is more effective than the most popular diabetes drug (metformin).

Get out and walk your 5,000 steps today.

3. Have your foot doctor cut your toenails.

I'm serious. Stop cutting your own nails. First, it's too easy to cut yourself on the feet (which can be dangerous if you do have adult onset diabetes). And second, it means you have to get a foot doctor and see him or her and they have to look closely at your feet regularly.

Warning: You might not catch the signs of adult onset diabetes before it kicks in. In a study published in 2007, fully 6,600 of 15,000 diabetes suffers reported no outward symptoms.

Let that sink in so you can appreciate how dangerous that is.  Over 40% of the diabetes sufferers in the study didn't recognize they had any symptoms.

As an adult, diabetes is something that can creep up on you without any warning. Well, that's not quite true -- there are definite warning signs for adult-onset diabetes, but they're often ignored or mistaken for other things. Since diabetes is a serious disease, it's important to recognize these signs as early as possible in order to minimize health problems and other complications. This is especially true of overweight adults, who are very much at risk of diabetes.

The classic signs of adult diabetes are frequent urination and constant thirst. The thirst is actually a side-effect of the urination, since the body is trying to prevent dehydration. Frequent or excessive urination is particularly a sign of diabetes insipidus, a form of diabetes that is hormonal in nature, unlike the more common diabetes mellitus, which is due to abnormal levels of insulin and/or resistance to insulin's effects.

Blurry vision is definitely one sign you should take seriously, as it often occurs after long periods with elevated blood sugar levels. Many adults will ignore this symptom, ascribing it to fatigue or the effects of aging. A visit to the optometrist should be scheduled as quickly as possible to determine if the blurred vision is in fact due to adult-onset diabetes or some other health problem.

Other symptoms of adult diabetes include unexplained weight loss, perhaps oddly coupled with increased hunger, as well as fatigue and irritability. Of course, there are many diseases and conditions that can cause some or all of these symptoms, especially in adults, which is what makes diagnosis of diabetes so difficult. Who hasn't been irritable, after all, or fatigued? But it's the chronic appearance of these symptoms that are worrisome. It's one thing to be fatigued for a day or two, but if you're feeling off for a couple of weeks, it's time to visit the doctor.

The good news is that diabetes responds well to treatment if caught early, especially in adults. If sugar or insulin resistance is the problem, careful control of diet and exercise may be all that's needed to keep the disease in check. For others, medication will also be required. The earlier it's diagnosed, though, the better chance you'll have of dealing with adult diabetes.

Adult diabetes is another name for type 2 diabetes or non insulin dependent diabetes. The name was probably given to differentiate it from juvenile diabetes that tended to occur in young people. Juvenile diabetes is now called type 1 diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes. The names of these diseases have changed because it is not really the case that children only get type 1 diabetes and people in their 30's can acquire type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 and type 2 diabetes differ in one crucial aspect. In type 1 diabetes the pancreas does not produce insulin, in type 2 it does, but it is not effective and the body is said to be insulin resistant. Insulin is needed to help convert glucose in the bloodstream into energy and in the process reduce the level of sugar in the blood. When somebody has diabetes they can't do this. High levels of blood sugar for any length of time can result in serious health problems.

Symptoms of diabetes type 2 are often hard to determine by the individual because they can be mild or sporadic. In some cases people that are type 2 diabetics will be unaware of it for years.

Some of the classic symptoms that may occur are :

Increased and excessive thirst or polydipsia

Increased hunger

Frequent and excessive urination or polyuria

Dry mouth

Constant tiredness and feeling weak

Nauseous or feeling like vomiting

Numbness in feet or hands

Frequent infections or susceptibility to cuts and grazes

Blurred vision

A person that has type 2 diabetes could have one or all of these symptoms. As you can see early symptoms of adult onset diabetes could be mistaken for a heavy night out, stress at work or some kind of infection.

The best way to confirm if you have the condition is to consult a doctor. The method used to diagnose the disease is to take a blood test. A common blood test for diabetes is the fasting plasma glucose test. The test is done after a period of about 8 hours when nothing has been eaten. This gives a clear indication that the glucose in the the blood is being reduced or otherwise.

Symptoms of adult diabetes are hard to determine so it makes sense to check any concerns you have with a doctor or incorporate it into any regular check ups. For example, getting an eye test or check up that is recommended once a year can be used to check that you don't have diabetes. An Optician can check the retina for any unusual damage that can lead to the detection of diabetes.

People often talk about Adult Onset Diabetes. The thing is we have to know what are the symptoms to this disease so we can be aware if we have it.

It is interesting to note that the word diabetes comes from 'passing through' and mellitus is 'honey'. To put it simply and in a more sensible manner, the high levels of sugar in a person's urine is pretty much like honey passing through. Adult Onset Diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes is characterized by the high levels of the glucose level in the bloodstream. This results to spilling over in the urine. It is also associated with an increase of carbohydrates in diets.

At the moment, adult onset diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the US., but there's good news to this disappointing statistic. 90% of the diabetics who are non-insulin dependent can be cured as long as they achieve their ideal weight and by practicing a healthy lifestyle and having a balanced diet.

Other causes for insulin deficiency are toxic reaction to nitroso compounds, auto-immune disease and viral infection of the beta cells found in the pancreas. When not cured, risks include stroke, atherosclerosis, premature heart disease, blindness, pancreatic failure and gangrene of the limbs. Also, it runs in the family. If a family member has diabetes, chances are people in his blood line have more risk of getting it too if they do not watch what they eat.

A person's diet is quite critical in regulating diabetes. Doctors recommend a healthy nutritional approach. In fact there are so many ways to regulate Diabetes Mellitus - from botanical medicine to traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy and psychological approaches. Prevention is better than cure so the best way to control the disease is to simply regulate what you eat. If you have a sweet tooth the very minute you get up from bed, a grilled cheese sandwich might be a better breakfast as opposed to donuts and coffee.

Steer clear of pastry treats, cookies, pasta and soda-pop. You can have these but in moderation. If this is your diet day in and day out, expect the doctor to be diagnosing you with diabetes. You cannot change your diet overnight, but it can be done slowly and patiently with persistence. Since we are used to eating this and that, it's hard to ignore the treats that we enjoyed before. But think of it this way, it is for your own good. This change in diet can be done. Plus, it puts you at less risk in getting diabetes.

Here's a secret. Have a diet that does not contain sugar and high complex carbohydrates. Refined sugar is a carbohydrate that has been chemically altered through bleaching and processing. Examples of foods to ignore include cookies, candy, pastries, boxed cereal, alcohol, honey, soda pops, pizza and ice cream.

The symptoms of adult onset diabetes Type 2 include the following:

- frequent urination

- increased appetite

- increased thirst

- blurred vision

- fatigue

- slow-healing or frequent infections

- inability to have an erection

In order for the person to be sure that he has Type 2 Diabetes, the following examinations can be conducted:
- blood glucose level. If the level is above 126 mg/dL during two incidences, the diagnosis is possibly diabetes
- random blood glucose level testing - if the level is above 200 mg/dL and the person has the symptoms mentioned earlier, the diagnosis is possibly diabetes
- oral glucose test - if the level is above 200 mg/dL, the diagnosis is possibly diabetes.

People ask how to treat Type 2 diabetes. First, you have to eradicate the causes. You should also regulate the glucose level in the body. By continually doing this, the goal is achieved and a person with diabetes can have a longer life. The key to remember is that the main treatment for adult onset diabetes is diet and exercise.

Plan your meals and choose healthy foods. Eat the right amount and eat meals on schedule. In your free time, learn how much exactly fat, carbohydrates and protein you need in a balanced diet. Meal plans can be customized depending on your preferences and food habits.

Everybody's advised to exercise regularly. This is a necessity if you're diagnosed with diabetes because it controls the glucose level in your body. It also burns the extra calories and fat. That helps you mange your weight. In addition, it also helps you to cope with stress better. Adult onset diabetes may have these symptoms detailed here, but a consultation with a medical practicioner is the sensible path to take as soon as you suspect you may have diabetes.

Would you like to forget your worries about high blood sugar levels and just relax about your health again?

Diabetes has a big impact on your life. And high blood sugar levels can be worrisome. But even traditional medicine embraces the idea that you can take control and decrease blood sugar naturally.

Read on for just a few crucial lessons for reversing or preventing the impact of high blood sugar.

- Get monitoring aids and use them. People with glucose issues often become exquisitely tuned to their bodies. You'll know something is off. You'll think you know how much your body is off. And you'll be wrong. Knowing you're hypoglycemic isn't enough. You need to know precisely how low you are. Test!

If you don't, you're one step closer to complications. It's that simple. Fewer than half of patients who guess even come close to their actual sugar level, rarely within even 50 mg/dl.

Test regularly if you have diabetes - twice a day if you have type 2 diabetes, before meals and at day's end as long as you have type 1.

- Log your measurements. The American Diabetes Association says "keeping a log is vital." Just like you don't know how low your blood sugar is, you won't remember just how many minutes after exercising your sugar dropped or how many glasses of wine you had that evening.

And that's what you've got to know to get your regimen adjusted to keep glucose from damaging your body.

 - Get on a regimen. 90% of the cases when diabetes progresses it's because the patient doesn't stay on their regimen. If you don't have a history of success on other self-guided regimens like diets, get a system to assist you. Consistency is crucial to a long and healthy life.

When talking about diabetes, chances are we know a lot of people who have diabetes. Young, old, children, adult. Here we will discuss the symptoms of adult diabetes.

Diabetes is often associated with 'insulin'. Insulin is the hormone that the pancreas glands produce. It is responsible for the glucose in the body. The blood sugar rises when the pancreas produces no insulin or little insulin. It may produce insulin but it is not enough for the body, therefore there is a deduction in its effectiveness.

Symptoms that an adult has diabetes are closely linked to the body's inability in making insulin. The effects are extremely devastating. If the body does not produce insulin, it can result an irregularity in the body and this also affect the person's emotions. Those who have high glucose and blood sugar levels in their body are not aware of the symptoms. That's why they put more risks in their body. Diabetes can affect anyone of any age. It is treated by changing the diet and the use of medications.

There are two kinds of diabetes affecting the body's glucose production. Type 1 Diabetes is when the body does not make the required insulin amount. When this happens, glucose which is the root of all physical energy, builds up in the person's blood stream. Normally, these are utilized. Therefore, the high blood levels of glucose in the person's body cause the major symptoms of the disease known as adult diabetes.

In Type 2 Diabetes, the body cannot use the insulin that it makes which leads to high glucose blood levels. Those who have Type 2 diabetes already have this condition building up for some time but it is only at this given point that the body had become impaired and could no longer tolerate too much glucose. In the early stages of Type 2 Diabetes, the pancreas loses its capability to produce glucose which will then increase in the blood stream. Those who are obese and are inactive have more chances of getting Type 2 Diabetes. In general, people over thirty years old are the target of this ailment.

Other symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes include tiredness or fatigue, frequency in urinating especially at night, a stomach that is always upset, therefore vomiting and experiencing nausea. There is also a heightened appetite despite the weight loss. For women, there is an interruption in the menstrual cycle. If Type 2 diabetes has been ignored for a period of time, people who have it may get tingling sensations in their fingers or toes. They will also notice some circulatory problems.

When an individual is diagnosed with Type I or Type II diabetes, he would have to address his high glucose levels in the blood stream as soon as possible. For those who have Type I diabetes, immediate medical attention is necesssary in order to regain control of the ailment.

Scientifically speaking, the glucose levels are measured through the blood samples which are obtained when the following tests are done.

1. Random glucose test wherein the glucose levels are brought in randomly on two incidences. If the statistic is way beyond 11.1 mol per liter, then the diagnosis is possibly diabetes.
2. Fasting glucose test wherein glucose levels are measured overnight. Above 7.0 mol per liter results equate diabetes.

Sometimes one blood sample is enough to check whether you have diabetes. However, if the results are still unclear after all these tests have been done, you can ask your doctor to conduct a glucose tolerance test. Here, you are given a glucose drink that contains 75g of glucose, which is the standard amount. They also take blood samples before you are given the drink. You may have the results the following day because the test is finished overnight.

If the glucose level is way up 11.1 mol per liter, then you have diabetes. But if it is below 7.8 mol per liter, you have nothing to worry about.

It is hard to when a loved one is suffering from the disease. As soon as a member of your family is showing the symptoms mentioned above, consult with a doctor as soon as possible. Just like any disease, prevention is better than cure. Try to balance your diet as much as possible. It also helps to get up and do some exercise whenever you can. We advise that you conduct monitoring and periodic testing of your blood sugar levels. This alone will give you a heads up if you are a likely candidate for adult diabetes.

As soon as the symptoms of adult diabetes that have been mentioned here have been experienced, then immediately consult your physician.
