A lot of people underestimate the effects of hypoglycemia.

For many, hypoglycemia is simply a common symptom suffered by diabetics when their blood sugar level is too low. Since it's easy to prevent and cure however, many people are unmindful of the consequences when they fail to give themselves proper medication or treatment.

And that, unfortunately, is when they're badly mistaken.

Hypoglycemia is, yes, a common condition, especially with diabetics. But it's still a fatal condition, and it can lead to irreparable brain damage.

How Hypoglycemia Can Lead to Brain Damage
We'll try to explain the process as simply as possible. Firstly, it's important to remember that brain tissues work similarly with animal tissues. The brain also needs blood sugar or glucose to operate efficiently. While the body has some sort of in-house production of glucose, this supply is severely limited and consumed almost immediately. As a result, the brain relies on the additional supply of glucose from the blood circulating in the body. This additional supply, of course, also comes from the food that we eat.

Thus, when the amount of blood sugar in our body reaches a dangerously low level, the brain is one of the first organs to be affected. The disastrous effects appear gradually:

Below 65mg - The mental efficiency of an individual is reduced.

Below 40mg - The decision-making process of the mind is affected.

Below 10ml - Neurons are electrically silenced and become unable to function; such effects are known as neuroglycopenia.

Treatment for Hypoglycemia
It is important to treat hypoglycemia immediately. Ignoring it will only lead to life-endangering consequences. There are several treatments available for people to choose from:

Drugs - Oral medication or drugs intravenously administered may be necessary for individuals who are experiencing hypoglycemia as a symptom of a more serious disease.

Complementary Treatment - Additional steps may be taken alongside the primary choice of treatment to lessen the effects of hypoglycemia. Individuals can either increase their intake of food high on sugar on certain circumstances or abstain from alcohol. They may also choose to give up caffeine and nicotine. Lastly, vitamins and minerals such as the following can help prevent attacks of hypoglycemia: magnesium, vitamin B, C, and E, and zinc.

Herbal Treatment - Although a lot of people express doubt regarding the efficacy of herbal treatment, the use of herbs for curing illnesses has been around thousands of years already. Always consult your doctor prior to using any herbal medication because you may be allergic to one of the ingredients used in the medicine. Herbs may be taken raw, digested as pills, tablets or capsules, or drunk in liquid form. Siberian ginseng, for instance, is one of the most popular herbs used to treat hypoglycemia.

Acupuncture - This technique primarily helps the individual by decreasing stress, which is another possible cause for hypoglycemia.

The Worst Effects of Hypoglycemia
When the effects of hypoglycemia are especially critical, there's a possibility that putting the glucose level back to normal is not enough to save the patient from brain damage. Kids are also more vulnerable than usual because their brains and bodies are not fully developed.

With the use of pyruvate however, the chances of a patient undergoing neuron death is significantly minimized.

If you once thought that hypoglycemia is a laughing matter, we hope that you've now understood the seriousness of this condition. While losing one of your senses is no doubt painful, you should remember that losing your sight or hearing is nothing compared to losing the ability to think. And that's what could happen to you if you don't manage hypoglycemia properly.

Diabetes is a condition where there is a high level of sugar in the blood, due to insufficient production of insulin. It is sometimes referred to as diabetes mellitus which refers to the sugar deposits found in the urine or glycosuria (sweet urine).

Insulin is a hormone that regulates the manufacture of glucose in the blood towards the primarily muscle cells, fat cells, but not the nervous system cells. Therefore, insulin deficiency plays an essential role in all forms and types of diabetes.

There are three major diabetes types. Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes may result if the body fails to exhibit insulin production through the cells of the islet of langerhans in the pancreas and person having this type of diabetes require what they call insulin shot which is the insulin injection. This type of diabetes can affect children and adults. It was termed traditionally as "Juvenile Diabetes" because it represents major cases in children.

Type 2 is a result of insulin resistance, meaning the cells of the body fail to use insulin appropriately or reduced insulin secretion and sometimes is combined with an unexpected deficiency with insulin compounds.

Gestational diabetes, on the other hand, is found on pregnant women. Pregnant women who never had diabetes or never had a history of the disease in the family before were tested and proved to have high sugar content in the blood during their pregnancy period. This condition may lead to Type 2 DM (Diabetes Mellitus).

Untreated and undiscovered gestational DM can damage the health of both the mother and the fetus. Risks towards the baby include increased birth weight, cardiac and nervous system irregularities, and muscle mutations. There are other forms of diabetes. One is congenital diabetes which is due to genetic defects of insulin secretion.

Another form of DM is steroid diabetes which is primarily due to induced high dose of glucocorticoids and cystic fibrosis related diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2 are termed chronic conditions and usually difficult to be treated. However, Type 2 can be controlled with proper medication. Type 1 DM might be partly inherited and may be caused by infections.

Diabetes mellitus is considered one of the chronic diseases in the world which is difficult to cure. Keeping the blood sugar levels close to normal as possible without taking into the patient's health in danger is complicated process. This can usually be managed with dietary management and exercise, and the use of appropriate medications (insulin shots are limited only in the case of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Oral medications may be prescribed with the second type, together with insulin shots).

All forms of diabetes can be treatable by insulin shots alone. Insulin has been available since 19th century, is known to have treated the disease since then. However, even if Diabetes type needs to be treated by insulin shots, or a disease can be lowered or treated through insulin injection, diabetes remains to be one of the most causes of deaths in the world due to organ infection and complications in other parts of the body. Well, it is actually true that it is easy to treat through healthy diet, lifestyle, and regular medication.

However, most of the diabetes patients display complications that are basically caused by diabetes. Some organs nearest the pancreas are implicated by the disease, causing them to deteriorate, and eventually cause death to some diabetic patients. As much as possible, experts would advice proper medication and treatment to avoid certain unexpected complications throughout the human system.

Feline seizures are usually a symptom of an underlying disease. If a disease can't be definitively diagnosed, then your cat is said to have epilepsy. These seizures can be life-threatening if they last too long, usually over five minutes.

Causes

Most cats suffer from seizures due to a condition other than epilepsy. Two of the main causes include cancerous tumors and ingestion of toxic chemicals. There are also certain diseases that can make your cat start having seizures. Three of the most common include feline infectious peritonitis, leukemia virus, and immunodeficiency virus.

Diagnosis

In order to determine the cause of feline seizures, your veterinarian will first have to do a complete neurological and physical examination. A blood test can also determine if your cat has one of the diseases mentioned above that can cause seizures. If a cause can't be determined from these tests, then advanced tests such as an MRI or spinal tap may be done. You should be aware that diagnosing the cause of your cat's seizures may prove to be very expensive.

Treatment

If the veterinarian can determine a specific disease to blame, then he will attempt to treat it. This will usually be enough to prevent your cat from having more episodes. However, if an underlying disease can't be diagnosed, or your cat has epilepsy, then the veterinarian may prescribe your cat an anti-convulsant medication.

Warning

If your cat suffers feline seizures, there are a few things you should know. There is nothing you can do to stop a seizure once it starts. Don't try to shake or knock your cat to stop it. Unlike us, cats won't swallow their tongues during an episode. Therefore, you should never place your hand in your cat's mouth because you may get severely bitten. Also, you should try to determine how long the seizure lasts. If it lasts more than five minutes, you should seek medical treatment immediately.

When dealing with an unhealthy liver canine owners do have options. If your dog is exhibiting symptoms, a natural dog treatment program may be your answer. The liver is the largest organ in your dog's body, and it is also one of the most important to his health. Canine liver disease is the 5th leading cause of death in dogs. Because so many essential physiological functions happen in the liver, it is critical that the liver is in a healthy state. As with any pet health issue, prevention is always better than treating disease. However, many times we do not recognize that there is a problem until symptoms begin to appear.

Symptoms of a diseased liver in canines can vary widely and are hard to detect in the early stages of the problem. Some common symptoms are:

Loss of appetite

Weight loss - Obviously the loss of appetite will contribute to weight loss. If the liver is not functioning well, fats, proteins and carbohydrates will not be metabolized properly.

Low energy - also linked to appetite loss and metabolism problems

Light colored stools - indicating bile production is not normal

Excessive thirst and urination

Vomiting or diarrhea

Tender abdomen

Behavioral changes

Pale gums or orange colored urine - which can indicate jaundice

You know your dog's habits better than anyone, and this information will be invaluable to your veterinarian in making a diagnosis. A blood panel may be ordered to help your vet in the diagnostic process. Because the liver is intimately connected with other important organs, the symptoms it exhibits can mimic disease in those other organs. This can sometimes make the diagnosis challenging.

Causes of liver disease in canines include the following:

Exposure to toxins: Household chemicals (indoor & outdoor), medications found in your home (Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), molds, medications your pet may be taking, pesticides. All of these can be extremely toxic to the liver.

Trauma: A past injury such as being hit by a car or other severe bruising to the liver.

Infections: Bacterial or viral infections can cause inflammation of the liver.

Secondary diseases: If other systems are not functioning well and are putting stress on the liver canine health is compromised.

Genetic predisposition: Some breeds are more prone to liver problems. Bedlington Terriers, Doberman Pinschers, Skye Terriers and West Highland White Terriers sometimes have a condition in which they accumulate copper in their systems because it is not being excreted properly.

The importance of a properly functioning liver to canine health cannot be underestimated. The canine liver has great reserve power. This can be both good and bad. On the good side it means the liver is only using a small portion of its resources at one time, but on the negative side, it can take much longer to diagnose the problem. Unlike most other organs in your dog's body, the liver has the ability to regenerate itself.

This is where a [ natural dog treatment ] program can prove invaluable. Natural remedies for treating the liver canine owners may be searching for will help protect the liver from disease and also reverse and heal liver damage. Many times a diseased liver can be returned to normal function.
