Reactive hypoglycemia is typically referred to as "low blood sugar." Reactive hypoglycemia frequently occurs in diabetics, but it can also occur in those who do not have diabetes.

How Does Low Blood Sugar Happen?

A person's blood sugar usually drops when they're fasting. Their body doesn't have enough food or fuel to keep them going and so their blood sugar drops. However, there are some people who experience low blood sugar several hours after each meal. This is considered reactive hypoglycemia.

Some scientists and health experts believe reactive hypoglycemia occurs because a person's body has a glucagon deficiency. Glucagon is a hormone that generally protects a person from having low blood sugar. For whatever reason, people who experience reactive hypoglycemia have bodies that don't block this from happening. Others suggest this problem is caused by oversensitivity to epinephrine, tumors or excessive insulin production.

How Do You Know When You Have Reactive Hypoglycemia?

Researchers have had a hard time figuring out how reactive hypoglycemia occurs. They also have a hard time diagnosing reactive hypoglycemia. This is because once a person's blood sugar returns to normal, there's no way for doctors to tell that the person's blood sugar was ever at an abnormal level.

Many of the symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia are similar to symptoms of other diseases. For example, dizziness, sleeplessness, anxiety, sweating and hunger are characteristic of all types of different ailments. They are also symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia. Other symptoms include confusion, weakness, hunger, shakiness and nervousness.

Preventing Reactive Hypoglycemia

If you think you might have reactive hypoglycemia, there are a few lifestyle changes you can make to prevent reoccurring reactive hypoglycemia bouts. For example, to keep yourself from crashing, eat several small meals a day. This will prevent your body from experiencing a blood sugar drop after a large meal. These meals should be eaten no more than three hours a part.

Another way to prevent reactive hypoglycemia is by limiting the number of sugary foods that enter your system. Too much sugar can throw of your body's balance and launch you into a reactive hypoglycemia spell. High sugar foods do not just include candy, ice cream and other traditional sweets. Many breads, soups and sauces also include sugar. So, if you suffer from reactive hypoglycemia, eat minimal amounts of these foods.

Many people completely ignore the symptoms and signs of diabetes. This can be a deadly decision. It is estimated that approximately 27% of the population have this disease (diagnosis, undiagnosed or pre-diabetes). Ignoring the easy look up symptoms do not go away. In fact, it makes you more likely to lose their lives to it. And as you'll see at the end of this article, it can kill very quickly.

I myself have ignored all the classic signs and was within two weeks of dying when a chiropractor actually recognized as diabetes and sent me to a doctor immediately for treatment. So what are the signs of diabetes and symptoms that you may be looking for yourself or your child before you seek medical advice?

Thirst and frequent urination

Perhaps the easiest way to tell if you have diabetes out-of-control is to look for excessive thirst and frequent urination. Before I was diagnosed I thirst that even after drinking a gallon of water wouldn't go away. It would be followed by having to go to the bathroom 20 to 40 times a day. Talk about embarrassing.

Tired all the time

Another obvious symptom is constant tiredness or fatigue. People often mistake out-of-control diabetes with fibromyalgia, Mononucleosis, influenza and other diseases because of tiredness and weakness that creates. You may also feel nauseous as having the flu. A blood sugar high will make you feel bad in General (like when you said your parents, "I don't feel so well todayl").

Hungry all the time

The cells need constant energy in the form of glucose. The problem with sugar is that diabetes is not always in the cells and instead remains in the blood. Eventually the sugar is eliminated through urine-but not before taking a route very damaging.

Because your body is not getting the energy needs, tries to take more food to compensate. Is a destructive circle because the crystals of sugar in your blood are like razors just inside of the vessels. Destroy the eyes, kidneys, feet, nerves and almost everything else becomes their duty. And this is where they come from most long-term diabetic complications.

Rapid weight loss

Weight loss is the result of your body dumping most of glucose inside (all food is transformed into glucose in the body or have been deleted). I lost over 30 pounds in a few months despite hitting the Las Vegas buffet a little too often. Doesn't sound like a symptom so ill, but you are doing incredible damage to your body to lose this weight. If you're at this stage, are also probably in a condition called Ketoacidosis and weeks to die.

Headaches

A headache may be a common symptom-but if it is mixed with some of the previous symptoms, to find immediate medical attention. Eventually he kills. What is happening is because the sugar is not always to the brain cells. Oxygen is also not getting to them and create swelling of the brain.

Hair loss

One of the unfortunate symptoms of diabetes is unexpected hair loss. Right before I was diagnosed, I was almost pulling tufts of hair. Soon arrested and reversed once I was started on insulin.

Conclusion

You should teach diabetes education for every child as needed for class when they begin to see the classic diabetes signs and symptoms in their bodies, they know to seek medical attention before it's too late.

My 16 year old nephew died from undiagnosed diabetes. He was the classic diabetes signs and symptoms. After being hospitalized one night who found she had a blood sugar (it's how blood sugar) 17 times the normal amount.

Death resulted from his rapidly swelling of the brain. His body could not really even after the medication. Don't let this happen to your children or yourself. Remember, died from complications of diabetes are constantly increasing as fast as the number of newly diagnosed cases. No matter your age, look at these classic diabetes signs and symptoms, seek medical advice immediately.

As the pet healthcare industry becomes more proficient, pets are able to live longer life even if they should contact diseases like diabetes. More manageable than ever before, diabetes in dogs can be treated and control with medication and most importantly a properly control diet.

The first most important aspect of a control diabetic diet is to not allow your dog to gain and lose too much weight. Weight changes would affect the amount of insulin needed to control diabetes and any planned changes to gain or slim down have to be done under the supervision and guidance of a veterinarian.

A control diabetic diet should avoid both natural and added simple sugars. Many soft foods, such as the semi-moist "burgers" and treat, contain a higher than recommended amount of sugar. Their relatively high moisture content, combined with this higher sugar content, may cause a spike in the dog's blood sugar after eating.

Routine is an important part of the diabetic dog's diet. The most difficult part that most diabetic dog owners face is the controlling of the dog's blood sugar level over a long period of time. A well-established routine that features a regular schedule of meals, treats, and exercise is important and of great benefit in terms of maintaining a diabetic dog's good health. A well-planned good routine that manages to maintain the dog's weight at an ideal level might reduce or even stop the need to treat the dog with insulin.

Homemade Diets
Although many dog owners enjoy cooking and taking care of their diabetic dog, most homemade diets are not recommended for diabetic dogs, unless you really know what you are doing. Homemade diets are too variable to be suitable, even if high-quality ingredients are used. One of the few occasion that a homemade diet is recommended for a diabetic dog is when the dog refuses to eat a commercial diet.

Commercial Diets
Commercial diabetic canine diets are varied, to give the owner and veterinarian more options when prescribing food for an affected dog. These dogs have lower protein than that which the dog might get in a homemade diet, ranging from about 5 percent dry weight to about 8 percent dry weight.

The advantages of a commercial diabetic diet over home prepared diet is that the commercial ones are more consistent in the uses of their ingredients, that makes controlling the sugar level more manageable. Nevertheless, not all dogs will eat them and it might take the owners to try various different formulations before finding one that your dog will enjoy eating. One tip to help a diabetic dog likes his food is to try mixing his food with different flavor of prescription canned food. This method is helpful for many diabetic dogs out there.
