Diabetes has many dangerous side effects, death being the final one, but there are many others. These can include blindness, organ damage, and damage to the circulatory system that can lead to the amputation of body parts that start with the toes and feet, and end up with losing legs, and so on.

The adult onset of diabetes is caused by high levels of glucose in the blood stream. The result is that excessive glucose starts to be expelled from the body via the urine. This increased level of sugar in the bloodstream is also considered to be caused by excessive amount of carbohydrates in the diets.

Your body will let you recognize the disease by giving you the following symptoms and signs:

1. Frequent urination: If there is excessive sugar in the blood, urination is more frequent. Because when insulin is not working or nonexistent, the kidneys are not able to filter the sugar back into the blood. The kidneys try to get more water from the blood in order to thin the glucose. This keeps the bladder full and will keep you going to the bathroom

2. Unquenchable thirst: As the body tries to get rid of the excess blood sugar, and is taking as much water from your internal system, you feel that you cannot drink enough water even if you are drinking much more water than usual.

3. Numbness or tingling: This usually starts in feet, legs, or the hands. This sign is known as neuropathy. It happens slowly as constantly elevated sugar in the human blood damages the nervous structure of the body. This occurs mainly in the extremities, and may cause pain. Diabetes Type 2 has a slow onset; this means it is so gradual that people are frequently not conscious of the development of the disease.

4. Weakness or fatigue: The food that we eat contains glucose that is delivered to the bloodstream where insulin is believed to aid in its change so it can be used in the cells in the body. The cells in turn use it to create the energy that we need. When insulin is not present or if there is no reaction in the cells to insulin, then the blood sugar stays outside of the cells, the cells will become starved and then you will feel tired and weak.

5. Blurred vision, itchy and or dry skin, recurrent infections or bruises and wounds that have a long healing periods, are all also indications that something is wrong
